The Secrets of Hexbridge Castle

by Gabrielle Kent

An ordinary boy inherits a castle he did not know was his, along with the secret buried underneath it. One of the nicest surprises I have read all year.

Cover of The Stonekeeper

The Stonekeeper

by Kazu Kibuishi

Emily becomes the Stonekeeper, and the amulet's stone starts speaking to her, offering power it plainly wants something in return for. The graphic novel of the group. The series runs nine books and is finished, so nothing is left hanging.

Cover of A Wrinkle in Time

A Wrinkle in Time

by Madeleine L'Engle

Meg is stubborn and impatient and not doing well at school, and every single one of those faults turns out to be the thing she needs. Nobody asks her to fix herself first.

Cover of The Accidental Hero

The Accidental Hero

by Matt Myklusch

An orphan who reads comics in the dark corners of the library turns out to be from the place the comics came from. Do not let the page count scare you off, it moves far faster than it looks.

Cover of Savvy

Savvy

by Ingrid Law

Every Beaumont gets a savvy on their thirteenth birthday, and Mibs is about to find out what hers is, on a pink bus going the wrong direction. The most grown up voice of the five.
